Eau Terre Environnement Research Centre relies on a multidisciplinary approach, which is essential to the understanding and integrated management of water and georesources, and is committed to developing workable solutions for protecting the environment.
Faculty at the centre have recognized expertise in water science and geosciences and work in four key areas of research: waste remediation and recovery, aquatic biogeochemistry, hydrology, and earth sciences.
Graduate students benefit from personalized supervision and cutting-edge equipment at the centre’s main building in Quebec City’s downtown high tech district. They also have access to comprehensive facilities at the Québec Metro High Tech Park and the INRS research station in the Saguenay village of Sacré-Cœur.

Thanks to the expertise of its professors, the INRS Eau Terre Environnement Research Centre has been awarded five Canada Research Chairs and a Chair in Sustainable Energy funded by Fonds de recherche du Québec (FRQ), Institut nordique du Québec (INQ), and the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC).
The centre has numerous strategic partnerships in Canada and abroad. It is a member of Réseau Québec Maritime and has worked closely for over 30 years with the Quebec division of the Geological Survey of Canada (GSC), with which it jointly founded the Pôle géoscientifique de Québec . INRS and GSC share laboratories and often co-supervise graduate research projects.
