Biography

Dr. Peterson is an interdisciplinary researcher focused on fostering practical approaches for moving society towards a sustainable paradigm, and does so by connecting elements of microbiology and engineering to develop science-based solutions that meet needs in an increasingly challenging world. He is profoundly interested in circular bioeconomies, and has undertaken projects in biomass valorization, biological chemicals, and sustainable food production. He is also active in the science of cocoa and coffee. This is in no small part due to Dr Peterson engaging an ever-growing global network of scientific researchers with expertise to support the various components of these projects, including scientists, policy makers, and industry.

Current and recent projects

  • A microbial bioconversion platform: valorization of waste biomass into microbial and insect ingredients for use in aquafeeds (A*STAR A2HTPO, Ongoing)
  • Investigation of Foodeed Waste Management and Preliminary Economic and Environmental Impact Assessment (A*STAR UGHTPO, Ongoing)
  • Advanced ISPR polymers for sustainable production of fragrances and microbial protein (A*STAR 2020-2022)
  • Development of functional strains and applied approaches for upgrading organoleptic qualities in green Coffea arabica bean. Multinational corporation research service agreement. (2020-2022)
  • Cocoa fermentation project. Multinational corporation research service agreement. (2018-2021)
