In partnership with biologists and doctors, faculty members are conducting research on nanomaterials and nanostructures for biology and medicine, photonics for biomedical applications, and telemedicine.
Their work has been used to develop an ultrashort X-ray source for the microscopy of biological samples in their natural aqueous setting, develop a more sensitive approach to tumour detection than traditional X-rays, create an interferometer that can diagnose glaucoma in a matter of minutes, and develop a laser irradiation technique for viruses.
