Graduate Awards

Each year, INRS recognizes the excellence and merits of its students by awarding various prizes and distinctions during the graduation ceremony.

Prix pour les diplômés de l'INRS

Governor General’s Gold Academic Medal

It is one of the most prestigious awards available to students at Canadian universities. Through this award, the Governor General of Canada encourages academic excellence across the country and recognizes outstanding students.

INRS Executive Chief Office’s Award of Excellence

These awards are given annually to two graduates, one at the master’s level and one at the doctoral level, to recognize the excellence of their academic record.

INRS Awards

Convocation is also an opportunity to present awards to graduates who have distinguished themselves during their studies by their achievements and the quality of their academic record.

Student Leadership Award

This award recognizes the exceptional leadership of a student who has distinguished himself or herself through involvement in student life, volunteer work or the organization of a scientific event.

International Outreach Award

This award recognizes a student’s contribution to the international influence of INRS through participation in international conferences or for winning an award for best presentation at an international conference.

Innovation Award

This award recognizes a student who has contributed to the creation of a patent, the creation of a company, as well as the transfer of technology, knowledge and skills to the user community.

Best Master’s Thesis Award and Best Doctoral Dissertation Award

Each INRS research and training center awards an annual prize for the best master’s thesis and the best doctoral thesis. These awards are presented by the INRS Foundation.

Scientific Director’s Honor Roll

This distinction is awarded by the Scientific Direction and is reserved for graduates of a program:

  • Master’s degree with thesis or Ph.D. who have earned an “Excellent” rating for their thesis or dissertation and have achieved a cumulative GPA of 4.3.
  • Professional Master’s degree students who have earned a cumulative grade point average of 4.0 or higher.

Lumières Awards

Firestarter, Trailblazer, and Starbust: the INRS Foundation awards highlight outstanding graduates who shine a spotlight on the importance of science in society and promote excellence at their alma mater.
