Project description

This PhD project is part of a broad research program whose overall objective is to increase knowledge and develop tools to improve urban stormwater management. The objectives of the PhD project are to develop methods and tools to reduce overflows from combined sewer systems during rainfall events, by integrating source control measures (green infrastructure) and dynamic real time control (intelligent infrastructure). This work will be based on data collected by the research team on several study sites in Quebec. Using this data, the PhD student will develop mathematical models and tools to assist in network design and operational management. The selected student will be integrated to a team of researchers and graduate students working in stormwater management, in collaboration with municipal partners. The PhD student will have the opportunity to present his results in international conferences and high-level scientific journals.

Required qualifications

  • Master’s degree in civil engineering, water engineering, engineering physics, Earth science, physics, mathematics, or any other related field
  • Interest in water management and mathematical modelling
  • Ability to quickly learn new software and new working methods
  • Experience in modelling and writing and publishing scientific papers are assets
