{"id":151659,"date":"2023-11-22T15:28:43","date_gmt":"2023-11-22T20:28:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/inrs.ca\/?p=151659"},"modified":"2023-11-24T09:04:38","modified_gmt":"2023-11-24T14:04:38","slug":"reducing-gender-inequality-by-training-financial-services-advisors","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/inrs.ca\/en\/news\/reducing-gender-inequality-by-training-financial-services-advisors\/","title":{"rendered":"Reducing gender inequality by training financial services advisors"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"has-large-font-size wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Professor H\u00e9l\u00e8ne Belleau holds a new research and training chair, in partnership with the Chambre de la s\u00e9curit\u00e9 financi\u00e8re.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n    \n<div class=\"wp-block full-width-image fixed-height\">\n    <div class=\"image-ctn\">\n        <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/inrs.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/finances-459370727.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/>\n    <\/div>\n    <p><\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-drop-cap wp-block-paragraph\">The <a href=\"https:\/\/inrs.ca\/actualites\/le-professeur-roberto-morandotti-recoit-le-prix-du-quebec-marie-victorin\/\">Institut national de la recherche scientifique<\/a> (INRS) and the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.chambresf.com\/fr\">Chambre de la s\u00e9curit\u00e9 financi\u00e8re (CSF)<\/a> have partnered to create the Chaire argent, in\u00e9galit\u00e9s et soci\u00e9t\u00e9. The work of this new research and training body will focus on the social aspects of financial management, aiming, among other things, to identify resulting inequalities and to propose solutions that will help reduce them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;The creation of this Chair is excellent news for Quebec society. The aim is to reduce financial inequalities, particularly between women and men who are in or out of a relationship, and to have a concrete impact on the population. I believe that financial services advisors can play an extremely important role in this respect.&#8221;<\/p>\n<cite><strong>Professor H\u00e9l\u00e8ne Belleau<\/strong>, holder of the Chaire Argent, in\u00e9galit\u00e9s et soci\u00e9t\u00e9<\/cite><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-9437c248 wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\" style=\"flex-basis:60%\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The sociologist and researcher, a specialist in family, couples and the social use of money, had already highlighted these income disparities between men and women across the regions of Qu\u00e9bec in her recent research.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;Financial services are often designed for the individual, not the couple. Yet in Qu\u00e9bec, which prides itself on being the world champion of common-law unions, only 26% of de facto spouses manage their finances together over the long term, and 37% if we include married couples. Women often get left out of the picture, and find themselves more prone to financial inequality,&#8221; explains H\u00e9l\u00e8ne Belleau, a researcher based at the INRS <a href=\"https:\/\/inrs.ca\/linrs\/centres-de-recherche\/centre-urbanisation-culture-societe\/\">Centre Urbanisation Culture Soci\u00e9t\u00e9<\/a> in Montr\u00e9al.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-vertically-aligned-top is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\" style=\"flex-basis:40%\">\n<div style=\"height:40px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" wp-block-cover-is-layout-constrained\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Three research topics have been identified to date:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Specific financial stakes and challenges faced by Quebecers in complex family situations;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Economic dynamics of immigrants: equity, diversity, and inclusion in personal financial management;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Financial perceptions and practices based on the Qu\u00e9bec region and gender.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Thanks to the training courses and tools developed by the Chair, the results of the research work will be of direct use to the professionals supervised by the Chamber who advise the Qu\u00e9bec public, particularly on retirement and financial planning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The subjects studied will be selected by a strategic orientation committee on their potential to provide meaningful data for Qu\u00e9bec society.<\/p>\n\n\n\n    \n    <div class=\"content-slider-ctn\">\n        <!-- Slider main This is a long-term investment for the CSF that will enable us to provide our advisors with the tools and training necessary to support them in their relationships with clients. These resources will help them guide clients through the various aspects of their financial security and savings.
