This annual event emphasizes the importance of making science more accessible in the dialogue between science and society. Four formats are eligible: text, comic, audio, and video. Many popularized works by master\u2019s, doctoral, and postdoctoral candidates are submitted each year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-important-work-for-the-health-of-pregnant-people\">Important work for the health of pregnant people<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Aurore\u2019s competition entry concerns pregnancy, a major event in the lives of many people. The researcher focused on the parasite <em>Toxoplasma gondii<\/em>, which, if contracted by the carrying parent, can cause serious complications for the fetus. Today, early detection methods and adapted treatments are available. However, these are not without risk for the baby\u2019s development, and significant side-effects can occur.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Aurore Lebourg works in a laboratory located at the INRS <a href=\"https:\/\/inrs.ca\/en\/inrs\/research-centres\/armand-frappier-sante-biotechnologie-research-centre\/\">Armand-Frappier Sant\u00e9 Biotechnologie Research Centre<\/a>, alongside INRS professor <a href=\"https:\/\/inrs.ca\/en\/research\/professors\/maritza-jaramillo\/\">Maritza Jaramillo<\/a>, an expert in infectious diseases and RNA biology. The team is studying the consequences of getting infected by this parasite during pregnancy, with a view to developing new therapies that are even more effective and less dangerous for the child.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><figure class=\"wp-block-video\"><video controls=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/inrs.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/LebourgAurore_Video_acfas_2024.mp4\"><\/video><\/figure><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-passionate-about-popularization\">Passionate about popularization<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Alongside her doctoral work, Aurore Lebourg is pursuing a number of projects related to making science more accessible to the general public. &#8220;During my studies, I realized the importance of popularizing science in order to disseminate new discoveries to the general public. Over the past year, I&#8217;ve had the opportunity to practice this form of communication in a variety of formats&#8221;, says Aurore Lebourg.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">She is editor-in-chief of <a href=\"https:\/\/en.lasyntheseinrs.com\/a-propos\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><em>La Synth\u00e8se<\/em><\/a>, the science popularization journal produced by INRS students.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">At the same time, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/les.scientifines\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">she took part in the &#8220;Les Scientifines&#8221; project<\/a>, an Instagram page designed to promote science and technology among young girls from disadvantaged backgrounds. She was invited to give a workshop on toxoplasmosis awareness.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In 2023, Aurore Lebourg also took part in Science Pop, a pan-Quebec initiative to popularize science, proposed by the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ircm.qc.ca\/fr\/accueil\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Institut de recherches cliniques de Montr\u00e9al<\/a> (IRCM) in collaboration with the <a href=\"https:\/\/frq.gouv.qc.ca\/sante\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Fonds de recherche du Qu\u00e9bec &#8211; Sant\u00e9<\/a> (FRQS).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That same year, Aurore Lebourg attended the Acfas communications training program, to learn how to popularize science and carry out a project with a civic and inclusive dimension.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-cover is-light\"
