{"id":169897,"date":"2024-08-02T09:30:00","date_gmt":"2024-08-02T13:30:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/inrs.ca\/?p=169897"},"modified":"2024-08-01T11:30:56","modified_gmt":"2024-08-01T15:30:56","slug":"2024-prix-planete-madeleine-gauthier-builder-of-a-sociology-of-youth-in-quebec","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/inrs.ca\/en\/news\/2024-prix-planete-madeleine-gauthier-builder-of-a-sociology-of-youth-in-quebec\/","title":{"rendered":"2024 Prix Plan\u00e8te: Madeleine Gauthier, Builder of a Sociology of Youth in Quebec"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>The Prix Plan\u00e8te are awarded to INRS professors who have made outstanding contributions to the development and transfer of scientific knowledge. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n    \n<div class=\"wp-block full-width-image \">\n    <div class=\"image-ctn\">\n        <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/inrs.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/Prix-planete-2024-INRS-1.png\" alt=\"\" \/>\n    <\/div>\n    <p><\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Since 2015, the Institut national de la recherche scientifique (INRS) has been presenting its <a href=\"https:\/\/inrs.ca\/linrs\/prix-et-distinctions\/prix-planete\/\">Prix Plan\u00e8te<\/a> to members of its community during its annual award ceremony.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This year\u2019s Prix Plan\u00e8te in the B\u00e2tisseur (Builder) category was awarded to INRS honorary professor <a href=\"https:\/\/inrs.ca\/la-recherche\/professeurs\/madeleine-gauthier\/\">Madeleine Gauthier<\/a>. This prize, awarded on an exceptional basis to an honorary, emeritus, or retired faculty member, recognizes the achievements of individuals who have helped build INRS and left a lasting mark on the institution\u2019s history.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A pillar of the former Institut qu\u00e9b\u00e9cois de la recherche sur la culture before it became part of INRS, Professor Gauthier has worked throughout her career at the <a href=\"https:\/\/inrs.ca\/en\/inrs\/research-centres\/urbanisation-culture-societe-research-centre\/\">Urbanisation Culture Soci\u00e9t\u00e9 Research Centre<\/a>. I knew how essential it was to keep this organization specifically focused on youth issues.\u201d<\/p>\n<cite><strong>Madeleine Gauthier<\/strong>, Honorary INRS Professor<\/cite><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The transition to adulthood, migration, culture, and social issues are just some of the themes that Madeleine Gauthier has explored in her research. Having helped make youth a real research topic, she leaves an impressive scientific legacy to Quebec and the scientific world as a whole.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Driven by a desire to expand research on these themes that are important to her, Madeleine Gauthier founded the Observatoire Jeunes et Soci\u00e9t\u00e9 in 1998, a group of researchers from various universities who are interested in young people, and more specifically their transition to adult life, their distinctive features as social actors, and their diversity. Analyses, reports, articles, conferences, and documentary monitoring: this infrastructure also aims to effectively disseminate the results of her research to a wide audience.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Always keen to promote the work of researchers in the sociology of youth, Madeleine Gauthier is also at the origin of the international journal <a href=\"https:\/\/rjs.inrs.ca\/index.php\/rjs\"><em>Jeunes et Soci\u00e9t\u00e9<\/em><\/a> and the collection <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pulaval.com\/collections\/regards-sur-la-jeunesse-du-monde\">Regards sur la jeunesse du monde<\/a> from Presses de l\u2019Universit\u00e9 Laval.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Professor Gauthier was a member of the INRS board of directors for several years, as well as chair of the Sociologie de la jeunesse committee of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aislf.org\/\">Association internationale des sociologues de langue fran\u00e7aise<\/a>, in addition to participating in numerous scientific committees for various
