This achievement\u2014made possible through the use of the national <a href=\"https:\/\/alls.inrs.ca\/en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Advanced Laser Light Source (ALLS)<\/a> facility at INRS\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/inrs.ca\/en\/inrs\/research-centres\/energie-materiaux-telecommunications-research-centre\/\">\u00c9nergie Mat\u00e9riaux T\u00e9l\u00e9communications Research Centre<\/a>\u2014opens the door to compact neutron sources that are far more accessible than today\u2019s large\u2011scale installations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Why does this matter?<\/strong> Neutrons are invaluable tools for \u201cseeing inside\u201d materials, enabling advanced radiography and detailed compositional analysis. Today, neutron production relies on nuclear reactors or particle accelerators\u2014costly, complex infrastructures that are difficult to access. By leveraging the ALLS facility, the INRS\u2013IPL partnership aims to transform this paradigm by developing and deploying compact laser\u2011based systems capable of replacing these massive installations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-a-scientific-collaboration-pushing-the-limits-of-what-is-possible-nbsp\">A scientific collaboration pushing the limits of what is possible&nbsp;<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This breakthrough is the result of joint work by INRS research associates Sylvain Fourmaux and Simon Valli\u00e8res and the IPL team. Their partnership exploits Canada\u2019s most powerful laser\u2014located at INRS\u2019s ALLS laboratory, a shared development platform\u2014to harness the potential of new, disruptive technologies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Their approach involves accelerating electrons within a laser\u2011generated plasma.
