A recognized expert in materials chemistry at the Institut national de la recherche scientifique (INRS), Professor Dongling Ma<\/a> has been elected Fellow of the Chemical Institute of Canada<\/a> (CIC), one of the highest distinctions in Canada\u2019s chemical sciences community. The recognition was presented at the opening of the X2026 Conference and Exhibition<\/a> in Toronto on May 24, <\/s>\u2014the first joint conference of the Chemical Society and the Chemical Engineering Society and further acknowledged at the awards reception later that month. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The CIC Fellow designation recognizes scientists who have demonstrated excellence in their field, as well as leadership, service to the scientific community, and broader societal impact. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

This recognition highlights an outstanding career and reflects the significant impact of Professor Ma\u2019s research, both in Canada and internationally. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Professor Ma serves as Scientific head of the Nanomaterials Chemistry and Advanced Optical Characterization Lab<\/a> at the INRS \u00c9nergie Mat\u00e9riaux T\u00e9l\u00e9communications Research Centre<\/a>.   <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Recognized expertise in materials, nanoscience and clean energy <\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Professor Dongling Ma is internationally recognized for her work in materials chemistry, nanoscience, photocatalysis, and clean energy. Her research focuses on developing innovative nanomaterials and understanding their properties to address real-world challenges, particularly in renewable energy, environmental protection, and healthcare. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Her scientific output is substantial: she has authored over 200 scientific publications, holds seven patents, and has contributed to several scholarly books. She is frequently invited to present her work at leading international conferences and prestigious universities and research institutions. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

She ranks among the top 2% most cited scientists worldwide, according to the 2025 ranking compiled by Stanford University, highlighting the global reach and impact of her research. She is also regularly invited to serve on review panels and advisory committees for major funding agencies in Canada and Europe. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

She is an Associate Editor of ACS Applied Nano Materials<\/em> and has served on several editorial advisory boards, including ACS Energy Letters<\/em>, ACS Materials Letters, and Scientific Reports<\/em>, further reflecting her international standing in the field.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A strong commitment to the scientific community <\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Beyond her scientific achievements, Professor Ma is recognized for her sustained engagement with the chemical sciences community. She actively contributes to CIC activities, has served on numerous committees, and has delivered more than 170 invited lectures worldwide. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Her leadership is also reflected in her strong commitment to training and mentorship, helping to support and inspire the next generation of scientists. She actively contributes to advancing the goals of the global scientific community. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

This distinction adds to several honours she has received throughout her career, including the Clara Benson Award (CIC, 2022) and her election as a Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry (UK, 2023). <\/p>\n\n\n\n
