There are a number of different types of cameras, and they use different methods, but they all share the same goal: to capture or share moving phenomena that can\u2019t be seen with the naked eye because they\u2019re nearly instantaneous.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:120px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-media-text has-media-on-the-right is-stacked-on-mobile is-image-fill\" style=\"grid-template-columns:auto 44%\"><div class=\"wp-block-media-text__content\">\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong><br><br>Why take so many pictures?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"font-size:clamp(14.082px, 0.88rem + ((1vw - 3.2px) * 0.833), 21px);\">The number of images you capture in a given time frame is called the frame rate. And the higher the frame rate, the easier it is to capture\u2014and therefore observe\u2014phenomena in slow motion. At INRS, several teams are working on this. In fact, one of those teams recently succeeded in developing a <a href=\"https:\/\/inrs.ca\/en\/news\/pushing-back-the-limits-of-optical-imaging-by-processing-trillions-of-frames-per-second\/\">camera that can capture 156.3\u00a0trillion images per second<\/a>\u2014a record! And the researchers who specialize in these cameras are exploring not only speed, but quality: they want the cameras to deliver images that are more and more precise while becoming smaller and easier to use.
