Project description

Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) contamination in soil and groundwater represents one of the most urgent environmental challenges worldwide. The laboratory of Prof. Tarek Rouissi at the INRS Eau Terre Environnement Research Centre is seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral researcher to join its team. This position offers a unique opportunity to contribute to high-impact, innovative solutions that integrate fundamental science, advanced engineering, and real-world field applications.

The successful candidate will work on an interdisciplinary project focused on the microbial and enzymatic bioremediation of short- and long-chain PFAS in soil and water systems. A key component of the project will involve scaling up and demonstrating the developed technology in collaboration with industrial partners. In parallel, the postdoctoral researcher will contribute to group management, including supervision of laboratory operations, mentoring of graduate students, and coordination of research directions.

The candidate will also be involved in writing grant proposals, publishing scientific articles, and developing external collaborations. Participation in additional research projects may be expected, depending on the candidate’s expertise.

Start date

As soon as possible

Tarek Rouissi, INRS Professor

Salary

A competitive salary starting at CAD $60,000 per year (depending on experience) is offered, renewable based on performance for up to 2 years. For further information, please contact Prof. Rouissi (tarek.rouissi@inrs.ca).

Required qualifications

We are seeking outstanding and enthusiastic candidates holding a PhD in biotechnology, biochemistry, microbiology, bioprocess engineering, or a related field, with a strong background in chemistry and biochemistry. Candidates should have at least one year of relevant research experience, along with scientific publications in this field.

Successful candidates must demonstrate strong skills in project planning, student supervision, scientific writing and publishing, as well as rigour, perseverance, and excellent communication abilities.

Bilingualism (French and English) is considered an asset. However, to overcome language barriers and promote the inclusion of non-French-speaking researchers, free French courses are offered to facilitate integration into the INRS and Québec communities.
