Project description

The Laboratory of Micro and Nanofabrication at the “Institut National de la Recherche Scientifique” (INRS) is looking to hire ahighly motivated post-doctoral fellow with a strong background in integrated photonic circuits (PICs) to contribute to the advancement of an innovative microfabricated optical platform based on silicon nitride.

INRS is a graduate-level university active in fundamental and applied research. It brings together 150 professors and nearly 800 graduate-level students and post-doctoral fellows in four centers located in Quebec City, Montréal, Varennes and Laval. It is consistently ranked as one of the top universities in Canada in terms of research intensity (grants per professor). The LMN, a $33M project funded by the Canadian and Quebec governments, is an integrated micro- and nanofabrication laboratory including a 250 m2 clean room and state-of-the-art equipment, allowing pre-competitive research in various high-tech sectors (nanophotonics, nanoelectronics, chemical and biochemical sensors…).

The post-doctoral fellow will work in the Laboratory of Micro and Nanofabrication, under the supervision of Pr. Mohamed Chaker, and will be primarily responsible for the design of chip-scale photonic devices and optical characterization. The candidate will also be involved in the microfabrication of devices. Since this is a multidisciplinary research effort, the applicant will have to collaborate with experts in microfabrication, integrated optics, MEMS, packaging and optical communication, among others. The applicant will have to prepare verbal and written communications to present their results to the academic and industrial collaborators and the scientific community.

Starting date

As soon as possible

Salary

The salary offered in $53,000 (CAD) per year. The employment contract is for one year and is renewable. The position is available immediately and will remain open until a suitable candidate is hired. The position is based at the Institut National de la Recherche Scientifique – Centre Énergie, Matériaux and Télécommunications (INRS-EMT) in Varennes, near Montreal, but the selected applicant will have to travel in the Montreal area to attend meetings and access collaborator research facilities. The work environment is bilingual (English & French).
