Project description

For candidates with a background in chemistry

This interdisciplinary metals in medicine project aims at the design of organometallic complexes and the study of their potential as catalysts and therapeutic agents.

The project consists in: i) the synthesis and the characterization of various organic, inorganic or organometallic complexes under inert atmosphere using glovebox and Schlenk techniques, ii) their characterization using tools such as nuclear magnetic resonance, mass spectrometry and single crystal X-ray diffraction, as well as iii) the evaluation of their reactivity in biological settings.  More details about the project will be discussed with the candidates who will be selected for an interview.

Profile

In addition to meeting the university’s requirements for the graduate program, the candidate should:

  • Hold a M.Sc. degree in CHEMISTRY (or equivalent);
  • Be open to collaborating with an interdisciplinary team;
  • Participate in the writing of scientific articles;
  • Present his or her results in the form of oral and poster presentations, as well as reports.

Applicants with knowledge or experience in some or all of the following areas are encouraged to apply:

  • Synthetic chemistry (organometallic synthesis would be an asset) ;
  • Metals in medicine;
  • Organometallic catalysis;
  • Cell culture;
  • Purification of compounds using various chromatographic methods;
  • Characterization of compounds using nuclear magnetic resonance, mass spectrometry and single crystal X-ray diffraction;
  • Considerable knowledge of the English language (spoken and written).


Financial support

INRS offers financial support to its students. Students are also encouraged to apply for external funding.
