The Centre Armand-Frappier Santé Biotechnologie (AFSB) of the Institut national de la recherche scientifique (INRS) invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position in the field of virology. We are seeking candidates with a strong expertise in the broad field of virology, particularly in the study of viral replication mechanisms and/or virus-host interactions. Research subjects involving re(emerging) and/or vector-borne viruses, or innovative bio-imaging or systems biology approaches will be considered an asset. The successful candidate is expected to build and maintain an independent, innovative, and externally funded research program in virology, to train master’s and doctoral students, and to teach in the Centre AFSB graduate programs.
INRS is the only university in Quebec dedicated exclusively to research and to graduate training. The Centre AFSB faculty members enjoy renovated laboratory spaces and have access to several core facilities, including a biosafety level 3 laboratory, as well as confocal microscopy, flow cytometry, electron microscopy and nuclear magnetic resonance facilities. The Centre also has close ties to the Laboratoire national de biologie expérimentale de l’INRS, a facility dedicated to research using small and large animal models, under biocontainment levels 1, 2, and 3 (certification underway for the latter).
The Centre AFSB provides a collegial work environment comprising approximately fifty faculty members who collaborate on implementing the Centre’s scientific program by conducting research and providing advanced training in the areas of infection and immunity (see Infectiopole INRS (https://infectiopole.inrs.ca)), the impact of environment and heredity on disease development, the discovery of therapeutics and prophylactics, and microbial biotechnology. The Centre AFSB is also the only member of the Pasteur Network in North America.
French is the working language of the Centre. Fluency in English is required.
Candidates who are not fluent in French are nevertheless encouraged to apply. The selected candidate will be invited to improve their French knowledge during the first contract period (three years, renewable after evaluation).
