In the fall of 2026, the INRS will gradually begin moving the teams at the Énergie Matériaux Télécommunications Research Centre into new spaces at its Laval Campus. The first phase of this project will involve teams in telecommunications division.

About the relocation

This relocation will promote the emergence of new scientific synergies between the Énergie Matériaux Télécommunications teams and those at the ArmandFrappier Santé Biotechnologie Research Centre, while also reducing the number of non-academic spaces occupied by the INRS. This move will be carried out in phases from the fall of 2026 until 2030Work on some of these phases is well underway, including on the move of the telecommunicationteams, whereas other phases are still in the planning stage. Please view the calendar for details.

Affected programs

If you submit an application for admission to the doctoral program in telecommunications (3670) or the master’s program in telecommunications (3404) for the fall 2026 semester or a subsequent semester, please bear in mind that these programs will be relocating to our Laval Campus in the fall of 2026.

Thus, courses will begin at our downtown Montreal (Bonaventure) site before moving to the Laval Campus in the fall of 2026.

Location of the Laval campus

The Laval Campus is located in Laval, on North Shore of Montréal.

The INRS Laval campus, located in the heart of Laval’s Biotech City, is home to the Armand-Frappier Santé Biotechnologie Research Centre, which contributes to Quebec-led initiatives in research, training and technology transfer aimed at screening, prevention and the improvement of human, animal and environmental health. The campus also houses the National Experimental Biology Laboratory and several members of INRS administration departments, and it is getting set to receive the teams from the Énergie Matériaux Télécommunications Research Centre. These teams generate scientific and technological advances in the leading-edge fields of advanced materials, nanotechnologies, photonics, telecommunications, and sustainable energy.

Addresses of sites

The two centres are thus separated by a considerable distance. Using public transit, the trip between the two sites takes about 50-60 minutes, depending on the time and the day.

INRS urges students to consider this when applying for admission and planning their study-related logistics. The following section presents the aspects to consider, along with the available resources.

Impacts on academic studies

INRS is working to ensure that there are no interruptions to academic activities. This requires proper planning. Students are asked to contact their program directors to find out if arrangements related academic activities need to be made during the transition.

Support for students

As part of your orientation, you will be given an INRS email address along with access to the Hublot intranet to ensure that you receive all the information you need concerning the move.

Housing

If you are completing a master’s degree or a doctorate in telecommunications, your course of study will begin at our Place Bonaventure offices in downtown Montreal in August 2026, before continuing at our Laval campus during the fall.

We therefore invite you to plan your housing accordingly and consider your travel to and from the campus when choosing your place of residence.
