Márta Radó: Understanding Health Inequalities to Improve Population Well‑Being.

Professor Márta Radó, a specialist in advanced quantitative methods and holder of a PhD in sociology, joined the Institut national de la recherche scientifique (INRS) earlier this year. Her work focuses on major public health issues and aims to better understand the mechanisms that create and sustain health inequalities, from birth to adulthood. She also brings several years of work experience in population health, having previously worked at Erasmus Medical Center in the Netherlands and Karolinska Institutet in Sweden.

Affiliated with the Urbanisation Culture Société Research Centre at INRS, she applies complex methodological approaches, including program evaluation, social network analysis, and the use of large‑scale administrative and survey data.

These tools enable her to precisely analyze how social, family, and policy environments influence health and fertility—beyond biological factors.

Her current projects revolve around three main themes:

  • Understanding inequalities in birth outcomes and health behaviours by untangling the role of social networks;
  • Identifying environmental determinants of health and fertility, beyond genetic factors;
  • Evaluating the impact of public policies and interventions to improve health and reduce inequalities on a global scale.

Thanks to her expertise in social epidemiology and complex data analysis, Professor Radó strengthens INRS’s research on population dynamics and social inequalities. Her arrival opens new avenues for interdisciplinary collaboration and contributes to informing public decision‑making in matters of health and social equity.
