Context and summary
Institut national de la recherche scientifique (INRS) is the only institution in Quebec dedicated exclusively to graduate level university research and training. The INRS and it’s Armand-Frappier Sante Biotechnologie Center wish to recruit a professor in the field of cellular and molecular biology for the joint research unit (Unité Mixte de Recherche: UMR) created in partnership with the University of Quebec in Chicoutimi (UQAC). The person sought must have specific (but not exclusive) interests in functional genetics, cellular and molecular biology or biochemistry applied to rare genetic diseases or allergic diseases, in particular for research concerning genome editing, multi-omics, single cell sequencing and analysis, epigenetics, or stem cell biology. Whether it is applied and fundamental research, modeling or the development of innovative approaches, the results should have a high potential for knowledge transfer. In this sense, the person sought should be able to establish an autonomous, competitive and innovative funding program (grants and sponsorships), and to teach in various graduate programs.
Main duties and responsibilities
- Develop, within the framework of the multidisciplinary scientific program of the UMR INRS-UQAC, innovative research activities in the field of functional genetics, cellular and molecular biology;
- Establish collaborations with research teams from UMR INRS-UQAC, that include those from the AFSB Center and research teams from UQAC. The ability to develop partnerships with the public and private sector will be particularly considered an asset;
- Ensure funding of research activities by obtaining external grants from public and private organizations, or in partnership with the private sector;
- Participate in teaching and training activities, particularly in the framework of graduate programs, as well as the supervision of postdoctoral fellows and research staff.
Requirements
- Hold a doctorate (post-doctorate is an asset) and have relevant research experience in biology, biochemistry, molecular biology, microbiology or in a related discipline;
- Have an excellent record of research accomplishments that will allow the successful development of a strong and independent research program;
- Possess research and academic expertise that is complementary to the AFSB Center (INRS | Research Themes: Finding sustainable and innovative solutions) and relevant to the research objectives of the new UMR created in partnership with UQAC;
- Contribute to the development of the INRS-UQAC UMR;
- Be able to work within interdisciplinary teams and networks while collaborating with representatives of public and private partners;
- Have skills for basic and applied research as well as for teaching and supervising graduate students;
- Possess and demonstrate an ability to obtain research grants from funding agencies.
Working language
French is the working language of the Institute. Fluency in English is required.

In accordance with the collective agreement in effect at INRS.
