Context and summary
INRS and its Eau Terre Environnement Research Centre seeks to fill a tenure-track position in stream fish ecology with emphasis on the conservation of fish populations in the context of increasing human and climate pressures.
The successful candidate is expected to have expertise in one or more of the following areas:
- Population dynamics and community structure.
- Behavioral ecology. Home range, life history, movement, migration.
- Fish-habitat relationships. Habitat modeling, habitat degradation, ecological continuity, environmental flows, global changes, invasive species.
- Restoration of habitats and fish populations. Restocking methods, process-based habitat restoration, dam removal, river space of freedom.
The successful candidate must be able to establish an independent research program that is adequately funded (grants and sponsorships), competitive and innovative, and able to teach in the various graduate programs.
Main duties and responsibilities
- Establish and lead its own independent and innovative research program;
- Ensure the funding of research activities by obtaining external grants from public and private organizations;
- Teach at graduate level; supervise graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, and research staff.
- Contribute to academic life through a regular involvement in various committees.
Requirements
- Doctorate in biology with specialization in stream fish ecology. Training in other related research areas can be considered;
- Excellent scientific productivity demonstrating autonomy and originality;
- Demonstrated ability to obtain external funding;
- Aptitudes for multidisciplinary teaching and supervision of graduate students;
- Ability to work in multidisciplinary teams and networks;
- Ability to use the infrastructures of the Environmental Hydraulics Laboratory and the Sacré Coeur research station are assets.
Working language
French is the working language. Working knowledge of English is essential.
Candidates who have little knowledge of the French language are strongly encouraged to submit their application. The necessary resources will be made available to them in order to facilitate their learning of French.
