Professor Federico Rosei named to the Royal Society of Canada

Federico Rosei, professor and director at the INRS Énergie Matériaux Télécommunications Research Centre, has been elected Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada in recognition of his outstanding achievements and contribution to the advancement of knowledge in applied sciences and engineering. This election by one’s peers is the highest honor bestowed on a Canadian academic in the arts, letters, and sciences.

Professor Rosei has made a name for himself through his pioneering work on advanced materials, which has enormous technological potential in electronics, photonics, life sciences and energy conversion. Known worldwide for his work on nanomaterials, he is the first person to hold the UNESCO Chair on Materials and Technologies for Energy Conversion, Saving and Storage, which fosters scientific exchange with developing countries.

As a Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada, Professor Rosei will continue to promote scientific knowledge and research for the benefit of society.

Recipient of an NSERC E.W.R. Steacie Memorial Fellowship, Professor Rosei has earned an excellent national and international reputation, as borne out by the many awards he has received in recent years. These include the 2014 José Vasconcelos World Award for education, the Award for Excellence in Materials Chemistry from the Canadian Society for Chemistry (2014), the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation’s 2011 Friedrich Wilhelm Bessel Research Award, the 2013 Herzberg Medal from the Canadian Association of Physics, and the Royal Society of Canada’s 2011 Rutherford Memorial Medal in Chemistry. He was elected as Member of the European Academy of Sciences in 2014. He is also a fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science; the Institute of Physics; the Royal Society of Chemistry; the Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining; the Institution of Engineering and Technology; the Institute of Nanotechnology; the Engineering Institute of Canada; the Australian Institute of Physics; the Global Young Academy and is a senior member of the IEEE and of SPIE.
