INRS is pleased to announce the appointment of Professor Valérie Langlois as Municipal Scientific Advisor to the City of Roberval.
This new collaboration will help bring scientific expertise to municipal decision-making, particularly on issues related to the environment, sustainable development, and community resilience.
A Full Professor at the INRS Eau Terre Environnement Research Centre and holder of the Canada Research Chair in Ecotoxicogenomics and Endocrine Disruption, Valérie Langlois is recognized for her work on the effects of environmental contaminants on aquatic ecosystems, as well as for developing innovative biodiversity monitoring tools using environmental DNA (eDNA).
The role of a Municipal Scientific Advisor is to serve as a bridge between the research community and municipal decision-makers. Acting with independence and neutrality, the advisor facilitates access to scientific knowledge and supports evidence-informed decision-making based on the best available data.
With this appointment, Valérie Langlois becomes the second INRS faculty member to take on such a role within a Québec municipality, following researcher Philippe Constant, who was appointed Chief Scientific Advisor to the City of Mirabel. This appointment reflects INRS’s commitment to putting the expertise of its researchers at the service of communities and public decision-makers.
