Research interests
Professor Blais develops treatment, decontamination, and valorization methods for different types of domestic, urban, and industrial waste. More specifically, he works on the development of hydrometallurgical, chemical, and biological processes to decontaminate and valorize matrices contaminated with metals, rare earth elements, and/or toxic organic compounds (e.g. polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, dioxins, and furans), such as polluted soils, incinerator ash, treated wood waste, used batteries, electronic waste, mining residues, and various types of industrial waste. He also works on the development of wastewater treatments and biomass recovery processes adapted for remote areas. In addition, he specializes in the development of numerical models for the technical-economic evaluation of these technologies.
