Offer Description
Prof. Tarek Rouissi laboratory at INRS Eau Terre Environnement Research Centre is recruiting new PhD student to join his team and to study the bioconversion of agro-industrial residues into microbial biopolymers using novel concepts. Part of this work will be dedicated to the validation and demonstration of the relevance of the use of these biopolymers for industrial and environmental applications.
We are looking for enthusiastic candidates holding an MSc degree that ensures appropriate background knowledge in Biotechnology, bioprocess engineering, Biochemistry, Environmental Science, or a related field with excellent results and knowledge in chemistry. Applicants expecting to obtain the MSc degree soon are also encouraged to apply. We look for self-motivated individuals who will demonstrate passion and creativity and thrive in a collaborative environment. Successful candidates must show track records of designing and publishing research projects, rigor, and perseverance in experimental work, as well as excellent communication and writing skills.
Bilingualism (French, English) is an asset, however, to overcome language barriers and to encourage their inclusion in the research team. French courses are offered free of charge If needed to facilitate integration into the INRS and Quebec City communities.

Financial support
The Ph.D. candidates will be employed for 3 years, and will run for an annual fellowship of $25,000.
Selection criteria
The main selection criterion will be the applicants’ research potential and the skills mentioned above. The successful candidates will then be requested to formally apply for enrolment as PhD students at the INRS Eau Terre Environnement Research Centre.
