Description

Short-chain per- and polyfluoroalkyl substance (PFAS) are among the most persistent pollutants in the environment. This group of PFAS is particularly problematic due to their very high solubility in water. The laboratory of Professor Tarek Rouissi at the INRS Eau Terre Environnement Research Centre is recruiting a new PhD student to join his team and study the microbiological and enzymatic biodegradation of this class of pollutants.

Start date

As soon as possible

Research supervision

Tarek Rouissi, INRS Professor

Study program

PhD in Water sciences or Earth Sciences (program details in French only)

Eau Terre Environnement Research Centre, INRS

Funding

The PhD candidate will be employed for 3 years and will run for an annual scholarship starting from $25,755. For specific information about the scholarship, please contact Professor Tarek Rouissi at tarek.rouissi@inrs.ca.

Required qualifications

We are seeking outstanding, enthusiastic candidates holding a master’s degree in biotechnology engineering, microbiology, bioprocess engineering, environmental sciences, or a related field with basic knowledge in chemistry. Candidates with experience in microbiology and enzymatic degradation of pollutants will be prioritized.

Candidates who are in the process of completing their master’s degree are also encouraged to apply. We are looking for a highly motivated individual who will demonstrate passion and creativity and thrive in a collaborative environment. The selected candidate must show strong skills in research planning, experimental design, scientific writing and publishing, as well as rigor, perseverance, and excellent communication and writing skills.

Bilingualism (French and English) is an asset. However, to overcome language barriers and promote the inclusion of non-French-speaking students, free French courses are offered to facilitate the integration of the Ph.D. student into the INRS and Québec communities.

To apply

Please use the form below to send your application including all the following documents in PDF: 1) statement of research experience and career goals, 2) Curriculum Vitae, 3) transcripts, 4) and contact information of three independent referees.

Only candidates with strong academic records will be considered. Applications from well-motivated Canadian and international candidates are welcomed. We thank all applicants for their interest; however, only qualified candidates will be contacted. Applications will remain open until the position is filled.
