A concrete commitment to a sustainable future

INRS is proud to unveil its Institutional Action Plan for Sustainable Development 2025-2030, an ambitious and mobilizing roadmap that reflects our desire to take concrete action for a fairer, greener and more resilient world.

Aligned with the UN’s 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and consistent with our strategic plan, this plan proposes structuring actions to reduce our environmental footprint, strengthen our social impact and spread our commitment through our research, training and governance practices.

Vision

To make INRS a socially and environmentally responsible institution.

In the face of the triple global crisis (climate change, biodiversity erosion and pollution) that we are currently experiencing, this plan embodies our collective determination to reconcile scientific excellence with social responsibility.

7 guiding principles

Climate and biodiversity: Climate action and the preservation of biodiversity are inextricably linked.
Planetary health: Planetary health, i.e. a global health approach in which the health of living beings is inseparable from the health of ecosystems, is at the heart of our actions.
Sustainable Development Goals: Our commitment is to help achieve the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Responsibility: We have a responsibility to act in a fair and sustainable way. This starts with integrity and exemplarity in all our activities.
Equity, diversity, inclusion, and decolonization: Our sustainable development practices are rooted in a perspective of equity, diversity, inclusion and decolonization.
Cultural and knowledge diversity: INRS aspires to integrate the diversity of First Peoples’ cultures and knowledge into its design projects, whether for the built environment, public spaces or natural environments.
Consultation: Consultation and collaboration are at the heart of our approach, to mobilize the community and share responsibility.

Highlights

INRS has been certified “Gold” by STARS for its sustainability performance in 2023. Read the STARS report
INRS is committed to becoming carbon neutral (Scopes 1 and 2) by 2040. To achieve this, the decarbonization committee has set several carbon intensity reduction targets. Read the most recent GHG report
In 2022, INRS signed the Nature Positive Universitypledge. Since then, more than 529 trees and shrubs have been planted and the Armand-Frappier ecological corridor has been created.
