Open to internal and external candidates | Tenure-track Position

Description

The Centre Armand-Frappier Santé Biotechnologie (AFSB) of the Institut national de la recherche scientifique (INRS) invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position in the field of microbiology. INRS is the only university in Quebec dedicated exclusively to research and to graduate training.

This position is part of the “Microorganisms and biotechnology” theme (https://inrs.ca/en/research/research-themes/microorganisms-and-biotechnology/) of the Center’s scientific program. Interested candidates must have a solid expertise in microbiology in order to develop, as part of the Centre’s multidisciplinary programs, innovative research activities, particularly in the study of microorganism-host interactions (plant, insect, animal, human, etc.), environmental microbiota (soil, water, etc.), or agri-food microbiology. Research topics involving big data analysis, modeling, synthetic biology, or systems biology approaches will be considered assets. The successful candidate must be able to obtain the external funding required to establish and maintain an independent and innovative research program in microbiology, to supervise graduate students, and to teach in graduate programs of the AFSB Center.

The Centre AFSB provides its faculty with renovated laboratory spaces and access to various infrastructures and core facilities, including a biosafety level 3 laboratory, confocal microscopy and flow cytometry, electron microscopy, and nuclear magnetic resonance platforms. In addition, the Centre has close ties with the INRS Laboratoire national de biologie expérimentale, a facility on campus dedicated to research on small and large animal models. Note that the AFSB Center is the only member of the Pasteur Network in North America.

The collegial work environment at the Centre AFSB comprises about fifty faculty members pursuing multidisciplinary research and providing cutting-edge training in various topics, aimed at improving health and the environment. Thus varied subjects such as the development of new strategies to combat pathogens and other invaders (e.g. biological control), the optimization of bioprocesses, the biocatalytic synthesis of compounds of industrial or agri-food interest, the conversion of biomass and the utilization of microorganisms/microbiota for the development of biotechnologies are of interest.
