Update : July 11, 2024

The Prix Planète are presented to INRS professors who have made outstanding contributions to the development and sharing of scientific knowledge.

Since 2015, the Institut national de la recherche scientifique (INRS) has been presenting its Prix Planète to members of its community during its annual award ceremony.

This year, Professor Maude Pugliese, a specialist in family and financial issues, received the award in the Relève d’excellence en recherche (Outstanding Up-and-Coming Researchers) category.

Given to a faculty member with eight years of experience or fewer, this award recognizes remarkable and promising careers and their benefits for INRS and the scientific community as a whole.

An impressive early-career track record

Maude Pugliese has been a professor at the Urbanisation Culture Société Research Centre since 2018, where she arrived after receiving her Ph.D. in sociology from the University of Chicago in 2016. In just a few short years, the researcher has amassed a number of accomplishments worthy of a long career, in all spheres of academic life: publications, communications, direction of research teams, receipt of major grants, involvement in teaching, and mentorships for several students.

Professor Pugliese also holds the Canada Research Chair in Family Financial Experiences and Wealth Inequality, and is scientific leader of the Familles en mouvance research partnership. She is also the director of the Observatoire des réalités familiales and the Familia database, as well as the master’s and Ph.D. programs in population studies at INRS.

Professor Pugliese’s scientific output is remarkable, earning her a strong reputation in Quebec and internationally. Her innovative research combines social studies on families and finances with a focus on economic inequalities, particularly those between men and women. Her meteoric rise, innovative research angles, and leadership have left an impression on her peers.

“As a researcher, I work to provide evidence to inform decision-making. I believe that in a wealthy society like ours, it should be one of our priorities to tackle issues of inequality, precariousness, and poverty in an honest and productive way.”
