We teach the next generation of researchers to develop scientific, social, and technological innovations.
We find solutions through interdisciplinary research and industry or public and community partnerships.
We play an active role in Québec's economic, social, and cultural development.

Applied and fundamental research at INRS is made possible thanks to support from numerous people.
Promoting basic and applied research activities, thereby turning ideas into concrete results, is an important pillar in the development of our research and training institution. The same applies to sharing knowledge and technologies with our private and public partners. Through collaborations with a range of partners, the work of researchers at the Institut national de la recherche scientifique (INRS) contributes to the development of society as a whole.
Our professors, students, and postdoctoral fellows all help to advance high-level research in Quebec in their respective fields. The teams at the Bureau des partenariats et de la valorisation and theService à la recherchesupport these researchers through the various stages of their work, including the promotion and commercialization of their results, to ensure maximum impact. Many community members are involved in supporting large-scale projects through the writing of grant applications and following up on the awarding of grants, negotiating collaborative agreements and licenses and managing intellectual property portfolios.
Each year, INRS is involved in more than 580 research projects. The “Portée de la recherche” series will introduce you to some of the projects carried out by faculty members in partnership with organizations outside the usual scientific community, with results that are having a real impact on society.
