Research interests

Prof. Sadaf’s research interest and expertise sit in the exciting space between materials science, electrical engineering, and applied physics. He is an expert on the epitaxial nanomaterials growth by molecular beam epitaxy (MBE) and pulsed laser deposition (PLD), nanofabrication and characterizations for nanoelectronic and nanophotonic devices.

Prof. Sadaf’s broad areas of interests are in the field of high-quality epitaxial nanomaterials growth, and their utilization in nanoscale photonic and electronic devices.  His current teaching and research interests are focused in the areas of quantum nanostrcutures, III-V nanophotonics, quantum optics, oxides and phase change materials for emerging memory devices, emerging materials/devices for next-generation computing and brain-inspired computing. His research portfolio includes 1 patent, >60 peer reviewed publications including ones in journals such as Nano Letters, Science Advances, and Applied Physics Letters and many prestigious conferences, numerous invited talks and tutorial at premier conferences, workshops and research universities.

Prof. Sharif Md. Sadaf is currently an Assistant Professor in the Energy, Materials and Telecommunications research center at the Institut national de la recherche scientifique (INRS). He received his bachelor degree in materials and metallurgical engineering from the Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) in March 2009 and the Ph.D. degree in electrical engineering from the McGill University, Montreal, Canada in November, 2017. Prior to joining INRS, he has completed his post-doctoral research at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, USA and National Research Council Canada (NRC) and then pursued another post-doctoral research at the University of Notre Dame, USA as an NSERC postdoctoral fellow.

He has received many awards, including the NSERC postdoctoral fellowship in 2020, National Research Council (NRC) postdoctoral fellowship in 2018, SPIE scholarship in optics and photonics in 2014, McGill Engineering Doctoral Award (MEDA) in 2012, Brain Korea (BK 21) scholarship, GIST award etc. In addition, he received many academic awards over the past 15 years.
