Update : September 11, 2024

INRS recognized in latest AASHE rating.

The Institut national de la recherche scientifique’s sustainable development research has been recognized by the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education, whose annual analyses have been published in the Sustainable Campus Index (SCI) 2024 report.

This year, INRS tied for first place with four other universities, including McGill University in Quebec. The institution stood out for its research and scholarship criteria, its support for sustainable development research, and its open access to research results.

82% of INRS professors, meaning almost 140 specialists, are directly or indirectly involved in sustainable development research.

This ranking recognizes INRS as one of the world’s foremost institutions in research on sustainable development issues. Our unique organization, divided into interdisciplinary research and training centers focused on the societal issues of today and tomorrow, contributes significantly to the impact of our activities.

INRS also offers a number of master’s and Ph.D. programs in the fields of natural resource conservation, climate change, and sustainable urban planning.

The SCI rates the higher education institutions that perform best in sustainability in 17 impact areas, as measured by the Sustainability Tracking, Assessment and Rating System (STARS).

Run by the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education (AASHE), this certification acknowledges the sustainability efforts of higher education institutions.

With over 1,200 participants in 52 countries, STARS offers the world’s most widely recognized framework for publishing information on a higher education institution’s performance in sustainable development.

In February, INRS announced that it had earned a STARS Gold rating for its efforts to that end.
