Applied geophysics
We teach the next generation of researchers to develop scientific, social, and technological innovations.
We find solutions through interdisciplinary research and industry or public and community partnerships.
We play an active role in Québec's economic, social, and cultural development.
Canada, and particularly Quebec, is home to a wealth of underground mineral and energy resources. Work in geology and geological resources involves a variety of specialties, including igneous and metamorphic petrology, geochronology, volcanology, sedimentology, stratigraphy, structural geology and tectonics, metallogeny, geophysics, geochemistry, geothermics, hydrogeology, and artificial intelligence.
Research Objectives
The research teams are focusing on the discovery and sustainable exploitation of critical and strategic geological resources to support the energy transition.
In collaboration with the government and the mining industry, their work focuses on understanding the nature and origin of these resources and the surrounding rocks. They also study the mechanisms of resource formation and remobilization, such as lithospheric fluid flow and tectonic deformation.
