Research interests

The focus of Professor Langlois work is on the harmful effects on vertebrates of chemicals present in aquatic environments. These substances can potentially affect all stages of cellular regulation in aquatic vertebrates, from hormone synthesis to target cell responses, and consequently they can alter the metabolism, development, and reproduction of vertebrates, and even their biodiversity.

The main theme of her research program is the identification of physiological responses and regulatory mechanisms in vertebrates exposed to environmental contaminants and vertebrate tracking using environmental DNA. For more than 15 years, her team has been working with academic and government partners to determine the harmful effects of these contaminants on vertebrates.

The main research axes are:

  • Axis 1: Environmental DNA and RNA to track species in healthy and polluted environments
  • Axis 2: Emerging pollutants (e.g. nanoplastics, PFAS, pesticides) and their impact on the development of aquatic species
  • Axis 3: Comparative endocrinology and endocrine disruptors in aquatic species
