Sources de peigne de fréquence intégrées pour l’optique quantique

Ces dernières années, le groupe de recherche du professeur Roberto Morandotti a été pionnier dans la réalisation sur puce de sources de peigne à fréquence optique, compatibles avec les longueurs d’onde de télécommunications, générant des paires de photons uniques multiples et simultanées.[C. Reimer et al., Opt. Express 22, 6535 (2014)].

Le système est idéal pour de nombreuses applications quantiques (par exemple, les communications et la cryptographie), qui nécessitent des taux de génération de paires élevées par canal à de faibles puissances de pompage. Cette recherche a conduit à d’autres réalisations importantes, telles que la génération de paires de photons à polarisation croisée et l’oscillation paramétrique optique sur une puce photonique.

Plus récemment, à l’aide d’un micro-résonateur à anneaux, le groupe de recherche a démontré des états enchevêtrés à deux et multi-photons sur des peignes de fréquence quantique intégrés.

Il a aussi proposé une configuration à cavité imbriquée activement modulée pour un schéma d’excitation éconergétique visant à générer des photons de haute pureté.
[P. Roztocki et al. Opter. Express 25, 18940 (2017)].

Son équipe a réalisé les premières paires de photons intriqués de haute dimension sur puce [M. Kues, et al., Nature 546, 622 (2017)] et des états de cluster optique à plusieurs niveaux [C. Reimer et al. Nat. Phys. 15, 148 (2019)], développant en parallèle un opérateur témoin universel pour une détection d’enchevêtrement faisable expérimentalement [S. Sciara et al., Phys. Rev. Lett. 122, 120501 (2019)].

 

Photonique intégrée et lasers à verrouillage de mode

L’une des réalisations les plus impressionnantes et les plus réussies est le développement d’un oscillateur paramétrique optique sur puce.
[M. Ferrera et al., Nat. Phot. 2, 737 (2008); L. Razzari, et al., Nat. Phot. 4, 41 (2010)].

Au fil des ans, cela a conduit à la réalisation d’un nouveau schéma laser à verrouillage de mode, à savoir le mélange à quatre ondes piloté par filtre (FD-FWM).
[M. Peccianti, et al., Nat. Comm. 3, 765 (2012)].

Ces articles ont apporté des avancées significatives dans la technologie laser à verrouillage de mode, surpassant les dispositifs actuels disponibles dans le commerce.

La propriété intellectuelle associée est désormais protégée par un brevet américain (US 13/325, 891), suivant / précédant un nombre important de découvertes.

Sources, détecteurs et dispositifs à base de térahertz (THz)

Le professeur Morandotti et son équipe ont développé une source THz haute puissance de pointe et l’avons utilisée pour sonder l’interaction non linéaire d’impulsions THz à quelques cycles intenses avec des porteurs libres dans des semi-conducteurs, ce qui nous a permis de déterminer avec précision leur durée de vie.
[F. Blanchard et al., Opt. Exp.15, 13212 (2007), G. Sharma, et al., IEEE Journal of Photonics 2, 578 (2010); F. Blanchard et al., Phys. Rev. Lett. 107, 107401 (2011); L. Razzari, et al., Phys. Rev. B 79, 193204 (2009)].

Ce sont parmi les premières expériences d’optique non linéaire jamais réalisées dans le régime THz. D’autres avancées exceptionnelles sont liées à la première démonstration d’un isolateur Faraday à large bande non réciproque, élément fondamental pour assurer la propagation unidirectionnelle du rayonnement THz. [M. Shalaby et al., Nat. Comm. 4, 1558 (2013)], et la possibilité d’augmenter l’efficacité de la génération de THz ultra-large bande en pompant à des longueurs d’onde plus longues,
[M. Clerici et al., Phys. Rev. Lett. 110, 253901 (2013)].

Ils ont en outre réalisé un dispositif à semi-conducteurs pour la détection cohérente d’impulsions THz ultra-large bande (spectre> 10 THz).

Cette technologie compatible CMOS est désormais brevetée (US 9823124B2 et CA 2343576A1), et commercialisée par la société dérivée INRS Ki3 Photonics. Plus récemment, nous avons exploré les effets de chauffage collectifs induits par les nanostructures dans les matériaux biologiques en utilisant l’imagerie thermique à base de THz.

Analogues optiques d’effets mécaniques quantiques

Le groupe de recherche du professeur Morandotti a été le premier à proposer et à montrer qu’un réseau de guides d’ondes induisant une modulation périodique de l’indice de réfraction peut agir comme une bande photonique (robuste) (analogue à une bande interdite semiconductrice), conduisant à une nouvelle génération de structures abordables de type métamatériaux , où ils ont démontré les localisations d’Anderson, les oscillations de Bloch et les promenades quantiques.
Les publications connexes [R. Morandotti et al., Phys. Rev. Lett. 83, 4756 (1999); D. Mandelik et al., Phys. Rev. Lett. 90, 053902 (2003); Y. Lahini, et al., Phys. Rev. Lett. 100, 013906 (2008); H.B. Perets et al., Phys. Rev. Lett. 100, 170506 (2008); I.B. Burgess et coll., Phys. Rev. Lett. 102, 203903 (2009)] sont considérés comme des jalons de la dynamique non linéaire. Leur travail expérimental a été une percée, étant l’une des premières confirmations du travail théorique d’Anderson (prix Nobel 1977). Plus récemment,  ils ont étendu ces activités de recherche pour étudier l’évolution des faisceaux d’Airy auto-accélérés dans l’espace libre. Parmi les résultats les plus remarquables, nous mentionnons la réalisation de décharges électriques auto-cicatrisantes [M. Clerici et al., Sci. Adv. 1 (5), e1400111 (2015)] et la démonstration expérimentale d’une nouvelle classe de faisceaux auto-accélérés non paraxiaux [P. Zhang et al., Phys. Rev. Lett. 109, 193901 (2012); D. Bongiovanni et al, Sci. Rep. 5, 13197 (2015); D. Bongiovanni et al., Opt. Express 24, 26454 (2016)].

 

Dynamique non linéaire dans des réseaux optiques synthétiques spatiaux discrets et à base de fibres

Cette recherche implique la démonstration expérimentale de solitons spatiaux discrets (c’est-à-dire des structures localisées non linéaires autorégulatrices se propageant dans des potentiels périodiques) et de leurs propriétés dynamiques uniques, y compris la réalisation de solitons de surface, d’espace et de bande supérieure. En utilisant un réseau de guides d’ondes non linéaire, nous avons montré qu’à faible puissance, le champ de propagation se propage une fois couplé à plusieurs guides d’ondes. À une injection de puissance plus élevée, le champ est localisé et sa distribution peut être décrite par l’équation de Schrödinger non linéaire discrète. Ce fut la première observation de piégeage non linéaire dans un système macroscopique discret.

Ces résultats révolutionnaires ont été rapidement suivis de plusieurs travaux, tels que l’étude des riches propriétés dynamiques associées aux systèmes discrets périodiques. Les deux articles liés [H.S. Eisenberg et al., Phys. Rev. Lett. 81, 3383 (1998); R. Morandotti et al., Phys. Rev. Lett. 83, 2726 (1999)] ont ouvert l’une des lignes de recherche les plus prolifiques en dynamique non linéaire et en optique intégrée des deux dernières décennies. Très récemment, ils ont étendu ces expériences, basées sur l’optique intégrée, dans une structure basée sur une boucle de fibre. En utilisant une technique de multiplexage temporel, nous avons réalisé des réseaux optiques synthétiques en ajoutant une dimension artificielle, où l’évolution d’impulsion temporelle complète la propagation spatiale. Ils ont démontré qu’à des niveaux de puissance mW, une telle dimension synthétique influence fortement l’effondrement des vagues [A. Muniz et al., Sci. 9, 9518 (2019)].
